Outlines for Round of Discussions on Circular Economy

General points for discussion:

  • Is there enough know how present in the Southeastern Europe to facilitate the transition to the green, circular economy? What connections could be of use?
  • How can digitalisation further facilitate the transition?
  • Are there gaps between urban and rural parts of countries in the Southeastern Eruope and what kind of cooperation could eradicate them?

It has now become obvious that to foster a durable and resilient economic recovery after the COVID-19 crisis, much more than a return to ‘business as usual’ is required. As global environmental emergencies such as climate change and biodiversity loss, if remained unchecked, could cause social and economic damages far larger than those caused by COVID-19, the environmentally destructive investment patterns and activities must be avoided.

To eliminate the reproduction of such societal behaviours, weTHINK. has designed a weBuildBackSmart initiative, in order to offer a common multi-stakeholder platform creating a Smart Roadmap for South-Eastern Europe (SEE). Using an innovative strategy-making approach, including all relevant stakeholders and considering every single opinion-maker participating, weTHINK. strives at creating a strong network of so called smart THINKERS – stakeholders who can significantly contribute to building smart communities in their local environments after COVID-19.

The goal of the initiative weBuildBackSmart is to build an inclusive bottom-up community, collecting the opinions of all strategy makers over the SEE to continuously develop a joint  strategy policy roadmap. Strategy makers are companies, policy makers, NGOs, Academia, social partners and interested THINKERS. Through a cocktail of research findings, expert interviews and roundtable discussions, the multi-stakeholder participants provide valuable insights into what both the EU and SEE countries should focus on in the months and years ahead.

Connecting the economic, social and environmental dimensions to facilitate resilient societies.

A driving mean towards fostering green growth, innovation and inclusion.

Reflecting multiple voices for creating more efficient smart policies.

The initiative will foster four rounds of discussions on several topics generating the ideas for the Strategic Roadmap, and also fostering much needed collaboration between the stakeholders from Southeastern Europe.

The fields of expertise that will be discussed and addressed in the Strategic Roadmap are:
